The common pricing models
Most observability tools combine several of these. Knowing which ones apply tells you how your bill will change when you add servers, people or data.
| Model | What you pay for | What happens as you grow |
|---|---|---|
| Per host | Each server, virtual machine or node you monitor, often with a higher price for hosts that also run APM | The bill grows with your fleet, even when the servers are small or idle. Autoscaling and containers make it hard to predict. |
| Per user | Each person who can sign in, sometimes split into full and basic seats | Teams limit who gets access to save money, so fewer people can see the data during an incident. |
| Per GB ingested | The volume of metrics, logs and traces you send | The bill follows data volume. You control it by choosing what to send, sampling and dropping noise. |
| Per GB indexed or retained | Storing data for search, or keeping it longer | A second charge on the same data; longer retention can cost more than collection. |
| Per module | Separate products for logs, APM, synthetics, real user monitoring and so on | Each new need is a new line on the invoice, and modules may be priced on different units. |
How Televane charges
Televane charges for one thing: the data you send each month. Every plan includes infrastructure monitoring, APM, logs, dashboards and alerts, with no fee per host, container or agent. Paid plans include a monthly allowance and a fixed price per GB above it; retention is set by the plan, not billed separately.
- Free — 50 GB a month and 1 user, with data kept 7 days. Data stops at the limit, so nothing is ever charged.
- Pro — $19 (₹1,499) a month with 150 GB included, then $0.25 (₹20) per GB; up to 10 users; logs and traces kept 30 days, metrics 13 months.
- Business — $299 (₹24,999) a month with 1.5 TB included, then $0.20 (₹16) per GB; up to 50 users; logs and traces kept 90 days.
- Enterprise — a committed yearly volume, unlimited users and retention up to 13 months.
Paying yearly saves 10%. See the full plan comparison.
A worked example
Take a team running 50 servers and 20 services, sending about 300 GB of metrics, logs and traces a month, with 8 engineers who need access.
| Item | On Televane Pro |
|---|---|
| Plan fee | $19 a month (includes 150 GB and up to 10 users) |
| Data above the allowance | 150 GB × $0.25 = $37.50 |
| 50 servers | $0 (no per-host fee) |
| 8 users | $0 (within the plan) |
| Total | $56.50 a month (₹4,499 in India, before GST) |
For comparison, a tool that charges per host would charge for all 50 servers before any logs or traces: at an illustrative $15 per host per month, that is $750 for infrastructure monitoring alone. Use the real prices of the tools you are considering, and include every module and user you need.
What to check when comparing tools
- What is included each month, and what one more GB, host or user costs.
- Retention for logs, traces and metrics, and whether keeping data longer costs extra.
- Hidden units: containers, custom metrics, indexed logs, synthetic runs or "high-water mark" host counts.
- What happens at the limit: does data stop, or does an overage bill arrive?
- Lock-in: does the tool accept OpenTelemetry, so your instrumentation keeps working if you move?
- Access: can everyone who handles incidents sign in without a large seat bill?
- Data location and security: where data is stored, how secrets are handled and how the agent connects.
- Support: response times on the plan you will actually buy.
Where Televane fits, and where it does not yet
Televane is a good fit for teams that run Windows and Linux servers, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, MySQL or MariaDB, and applications instrumented with OpenTelemetry, and that want one bill based on data volume. It also covers real user and synthetic monitoring, IoT gateways and the cost of AI features.
Check the integrations before you choose: there is no macOS agent, no built-in cloud provider integrations yet, and the AI gateway supports OpenAI and Anthropic. If you need something that is missing, tell us.
Switching without starting over
Because Televane is OpenTelemetry native, applications already instrumented with OpenTelemetry only need a new endpoint and token: see Send OpenTelemetry data. Servers need the Televane agent, installed with one command after a read-only pre-check. You can run Televane next to your current tool for a few weeks and compare before you switch.
Frequently asked questions
Does Televane charge per host?
No. Televane charges for the data you send each month. Servers, containers and agents are not counted.
What happens if we send more data than the plan includes?
On Free, Televane stops accepting new data until the next month and nothing is charged. On Pro and Business, data above the allowance is billed per GB at the end of the month.
How can we keep data volume down?
Pipeline rules drop or sample noisy logs and traces before they are stored, and Televane recommends rules and shows the savings.
Can we try it before paying?
Yes. The Free plan needs no card, and new organizations can try Pro free for 14 days.
